What is a contact coil?

A contact coil is a build where the wraps are tightly packed and touch each other. Unlike a spaced coil, this setup forms a compact and uniform cylinder. It is the most common configuration because it concentrates heat on a smaller surface area, generally providing a denser and warmer vapor. This is the classic build for most vapers using Kanthal or Stainless Steel in variable wattage mode.

Technically, a contact coil requires careful dry-firing to eliminate hot spots, as the current can create micro-short circuits between the wraps before the metal oxidizes. For your safety, use ceramic tweezers to adjust the wraps while firing and always check the stability of the ohm value on your electronic mod. A well-stabilized contact coil must absolutely heat up from the center outward in a perfectly regular manner.
