Tips & Guides

Can you freeze a base?

Yes, it is perfectly possible to freeze a neutral or nicotined base to significantly extend its shelf life. Unlike water, propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin do not freeze in a standard household freezer; they simply become extremely viscous and thick.

This method is ideal for protecting your stock from oxidation and heat, the two great enemies of nicotine. Before any use, you must let your bottle return to room temperature and shake it vigorously to homogenize the components. Cold storage allows you to freeze the properties of your base without altering its final quality. In short, it is an excellent technique for keeping your ingredients as fresh as a daisy over the long term.
